CentOS is an Enterprise Linux distribution based on the freely available sources from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. CentOS is designed for people who need an enterprise-class operating system without the cost or support of the prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor.

Debian uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating system), but most of the basic OS tools come from the GNU project; hence the name GNU/Linux. Debian GNU/Linux provides more than a pure operating system; it comes with over 25113 packages, precompiled software bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine. Debian is a freely-available open-source operating system.

Ubuntu is a computer operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. Ubuntu is composed of free and open source software distributed under various licenses, especially the GNU General Public License (GPL). Ubuntu delivers a stable, fully supported and secure platform for hundreds of organisations worldwide. Ubuntu Server Edition is an energy efficient, low memory and disk footprint operating system that helps build server functions that respect our environment with no compromise on agility and versatility.

As with all VPS providers, Virtual Private Servers do not come with server management by default unless a managed VPS solution has been purchased.

What is server management?

Managed virtual private server (VPS) plans are typically designed for those who don’t have a system administrator either in-house or at call and require specific needs, that are not supported within a shared hosting environment. With a Managed VPS ThaiDomainHosting can configure the set up your server and help with additional support you may require.

Self managed servers

Self Managed is where you manage all aspects of your server environment, including troubleshooting issues(excl. hardware) and configuring all other aspects of the VPS such as Software Firewalls, IDS, and the installation of patches and updates to control panels and the operating system.

We still assist in the initial setup(Server Provisioning) which includes:

• Installation of vanilla operating system
• Reverse DNS Setup

All other configuration and day to day management tasks, including troubleshooting issues need to be handled by yourself. If you would like us to troubleshoot issues (not outlined above), this will be charged as custom support at $95/hr.

If you do not feel comfortable managing your server environment to this degree, please choose one of our Managed VPS solutions instead.

All support for third party software should be obtained directly from the relevant software vendor by the VPS customer.

Exclusions:

• Troubleshooting of issues caused by customer misconfiguration issues and non-standard changes in configuration by customer are NOT covered under this service level and will be charged under custom support from $95hr
• Issues that are caused by third party software issues and bugs are not covered and need to be addressed by the customer directly by the software vendors
• Customer application/code level issues are not covered and needs to be addressed directly by customer or their developer.

We don’t hide anything from our customers and there are no hidden costs that may surprise you. The problem with many service providers is that there are other costs associated with the plan that may be unclear or undefined. We can guarantee that you will never have to pay any more than the cost of the Plan unless you order extras.

ModSecurity, Suhosin and ConfigServer Security&Firewall applications are a great addition to securing your server when utilising the cPanel control panel software, and these can be installed easily by yourself based on the developer’s instructions. We also have an additional, more advanced server hardening service that can lock your server down even further and offer additional upload and email protections.
